Improved Example Search: Base Form Matching for Italian and French

Starting today, when searching for examples of complete sentences in French and Italian, examples are selected based on the dictionary form of the words in the sentence.

We had already implemented the same mechanism for English, Spanish, and Japanese.

Let me explain with an example.

Italian: Organizziamo una serata musicale uno di questi giorni! (Let’s have a musical evening one of these days!)

Previously, examples were matched to the word forms seen in the sentence, meaning organizziamo, serata, musicale, questi, giorni. However, in the example database, searches are performed using the base form of words, so examples for organizziamo, questi, and giorni weren’t found.

Now all words in the sentence are normalized, meaning they’re converted to their base form, resulting in organizzare, serata, musicale, questo, giorno.

What was organizziamo became organizzare, questi became questo, giorni became giorno.

Now examples are successfully found in the database for all words.

The same applies to French.
